What's a G1 test?
The G1 test in Ontario, Canada is the first step in the graduated licensing process for new drivers. It is a written knowledge test that assesses your understanding rules of the road, traffic signs, driving skills, driving experience and safe driving practices.
- In Ontario, new Ontario drivers who are 16 years of age or older must pass the G1 test in order to get a G1 license, which allows them to drive with certain restrictions. These restrictions include having a fully licensed driver with at least 4 years of driving experience accompany the G1 driver in the passenger seat at all times, and a zero blood alcohol level while driving.
- After holding a G1 license for at least 12 months, passing a driver training course, and passing the G2 road test, a driver can get a G2 license, which has fewer restrictions.
