Eye Test - Vision Exam
At the DriveTest centre, you can complete your eye exam just before your G1 test—no separate appointment needed. The test is straightforward: you’ll read from a Snellen chart featuring numbers, letters, and sometimes blinking circles on either side. The challenge? Stress. When you’re under pressure, it’s easy to confuse letters like Y and W, J and G, or even Y and J. If that happens, the examiner might take a bit longer, wondering if your vision is truly clear.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Not Declaring Your Glasses During the Eye Test
If you wear glasses, always indicate this when asked. If you fail to declare it, you won’t be allowed to wear them during the test, which can impact your results.
Providing an Invalid DL Extract
Only original, stamped DL Extracts are accepted. Scanned or emailed copies are not valid. Without a valid DL Extract, you won’t be able to skip the G2 stage and will have to complete it before moving to the full G license.
Arriving Late
The virtual queue fills up quickly. Arrive early to secure your spot and avoid long wait times.
Stay Calm During the Eye Test
Many people, under stress, confuse similar-looking letters and numbers (like Y and W, J and G, or Y and J). When this happens, examiners may spend extra time checking, assuming you can’t see clearly. Take a deep breath, focus, and answer carefully.
Watch Out for Number Mix-Ups
It’s easy to misread numbers under pressure, such as confusing 0.08 with 0.8 or 0.05 with 0.5. Don’t rush — read every question carefully and double-check your answers.
Turn Off Your Phone Completely
Even a silent phone can be distracting. Power it down before the test to stay fully focused.
Prepare for Cold Air Conditioning
Test centres can be very cold due to strong air conditioning — sometimes enough to affect your concentration. Bring a warm sweater or jacket to stay comfortable.
